Paleontology and Art are deeply connected. Although most of the fun of Paleontology is to learn, and to know, art is an integral part that allows us to see. Some scientific papers, along with graphs and figures, also contain various drawings of the animals in question. It's very important for us humans to see the things we are talking about in order to understand them better.
Art turns abstract ideas, such as the jurassic period, or dinosaurs in their natural habitats, into lush savannas, gruesome scenes of gore and violence, peaceful heavens of sleeping pups and fluffy early mammals, as well as exciting movies and terrifying sounds. It's all part of our representation and our understanding of the history of life.
